  The 9th Aviation Battalion was the aviation element of the 9th Infantry Division. They operated in southern III Corps and IV Corps (the Delta). The 9th Aviation Battalion had two organic aviation elements, Company A (utility company that flew Loaches, Huey slicks, and Chinooks), and Company B (gunships).

The geometric symbols shown below identifies aviation units that were attached to or otherwise supported the 9th Aviation Battalion. These symbols appeared on the tail booms of Hueys. The 147th ASHC flew CH-47 Chinooks, and their  symbol appeared on the rear rotor pylon.
